To add to that, her parents are both incredibly liberal people and remember the times when they used to run around in loose clothing and hug trees, and have chosen to raise their children in the same spirit as oppposed to trying to make them conform. Her parents fully support her study of the performance arts and often turn up to enjoy her various performances when those happen in theatres, and just laugh and play along when they aren't. They revel in her...uniqueness rather than worry too much. As it is, August can often be found anywhere in Tampa at any time doing absolutely anything. What she doesn't tell people is that she plays these roles and pretends to be these people in the hopes of fitting into her own skin; something's never felt quite right. Past Background Occupation: Secret government weapon on the run Education: High Activities: Generally being River; running around, laughing, freaking out, beating things up when needing to, correcting bibles Home: Serenity Finance: Whatever the Serenity crew could spare History: Grew up with a dream childhood and had a caring, rich family. She was a wonder for them: a absolute genius. She was enrolled into the most challenging academic program that could be found: the Government funded Academy. After several months, however, she began sending coded letters to her brother Simon. The Academy was no school: instead, it was a centre for experimentation on geniuses like River. No one knows what was done to her before her brother was able to get her out. Simon had cut ties with their parents, who believed that he was being irrational about River's safety, and came for her, rescuing her and stowing her aboard Serenity. She was discovered by the crew and would have been handed back over to the Alliance if not for her brother's skills as a doctor and the fact that Serenity lacked one. During her time at the Academy, she was basically trained into a secret weapon and could be triggered by certain Alliance codes. They began broadcasting these codes in order to track her. During the triggering, River mouthed the words "Miranda", which lead the crew onto a discovery of a planet on the outter rim which had been used as the test site for government modes of control after the war. People had died because of this - and those that hadn't died had become the Reavers. After a show down with the Alliance and the Reavers, River left Miranda with the crew of Serenity in the co-pilot seat.
